Remove both ovaries and tubes for patients with breast cancer and high risk genes
This condition is associated with heavy or extended menstrual bleeding. Women suffering from menorrhagia experience severe blood loss, pain and cramping. These can restrict normal life.
Background:
43 year old women who gave birth to 5 children, youngest is 3 months old. Diagnosed recently with right sided breast cancer. Patient tested positive for High risk gene (BRCA1). patient underwent risk reducing surgery to remove both breasts (mastectomy)
Investigations:
Pelvic ultrasound. blood tests. Further discussion with genetic counsellors.
Action:
Following detailed counselling a decision was made to proceed with Keyhole surgery procedure(Laparoscopy) to remove both tubes and ovaries. procedure performed with no concerns. Patient went home the same day of the procedure (day stay) and was seen in 6 weeks following the procedure with no concerns.
