Emsella Treatment in Canberra
Non-Surgical Pelvic Floor Strengthening
Emsella is a non-invasive, evidence-based treatment designed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and improve bladder control, pelvic stability, and overall pelvic health.
At Canberra Gynaecology Centre, Dr Gailani offers Emsella as part of a comprehensive, personalised approach to women’s health. The treatment is comfortable, discreet, and requires no downtime.
What Is Emsella?
Emsella uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate deep pelvic floor muscle contractions. These contractions are far stronger than voluntary Kegel exercises and help rebuild muscle tone and neuromuscular control.
During treatment:
- You remain fully clothed
- You sit comfortably on the Emsella chair
- No internal devices are used
- No recovery time is required
Each 28-minute session delivers the equivalent of approximately 11,200 Kegel contractions, providing intensive strengthening in a short period of time.
Most patients complete a course of treatments over several weeks, with many noticing improvements early in their program.
What Conditions Can Emsella Help With?
Emsella is commonly used for urinary incontinence but may also assist with other pelvic floor–related concerns.
Urinary Incontinence
Emsella can help with:
- Stress incontinence (leakage with coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting, or exercise)
- Urge incontinence (sudden strong urges to urinate)
- Mixed incontinence
By strengthening the muscles that support the bladder and urethra, Emsella can improve bladder control and reduce leakage episodes.
Pelvic Floor Weakness
Pelvic floor weakness may occur due to:
- Pregnancy and childbirth
- Menopause
- Ageing
- Chronic strain
Strengthening these muscles can improve bladder control, pelvic stability, and long-term pelvic support.
Postnatal Pelvic Floor Recovery
After childbirth, many women struggle to effectively engage their pelvic floor muscles. Emsella can complement traditional pelvic floor rehabilitation by providing consistent, targeted muscle activation to support recovery.
Pelvic Floor–Related Sexual Function Concerns
Improved pelvic floor strength may positively influence sexual wellbeing. Some women report improved sensation, responsiveness, and confidence following treatment. These are secondary benefits of strengthened pelvic floor function.
Mild Pelvic Support Concerns
Women experiencing early symptoms such as mild pelvic heaviness or early descent may benefit from improved muscle strength.
Emsella does not treat moderate or severe prolapse but may assist with overall pelvic support in early stages.
What to Expect at Canberra Gynaecology Centre
All Emsella treatments are provided in a private, comfortable, and discreet clinical setting.
Before treatment, Dr Gailani will assess your medical history to ensure the therapy is safe and appropriate for you. Emsella may not be suitable for patients with certain metal implants, pacemakers, or specific medical conditions.
