Laparoscopic Hysterectomy for a large fibroid uterus

Clinical Background: 45-year-old patient who is Para 1 (1 vaginal delivery) was referred with heavy menstrual bleeding causing iron deficiency requiring iron transfusions. Ultrasound showed a large 10cm fibroid.

Procedure: laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy (the cervix was preserved), morcellation of the uterus and fibroids in Espinar bag (the fibroid was morcellated into small pieces inside a bag), and both tubes were removed.

Histology: Histology showed benign fibroids.

Recovery: Patient has recovered well. All laparoscopic wounds have healed with no concerns.
