SYMPTOMS: A 45 year old woman and mother of two vaginal deliveries. Presented to hospital emergency with severe lower abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting.

DIAGNOSIS: Pelvic ultrasound showed 6 cm right ovarian cyst inflammatory markets mildly elevated.

PROCEDURE: An emergency laparoscopy was performed, using three small incisions on her abdomen.

The right ovary and cyst was twisted three times

Due to lack of blood supply the ovarian tissue was no longer viable. The ovary and tube were untwisted and excised using bipolar diathermy and scissors, placed in a bag and removed intact with the bag through a small umbilical incision. The left tube and ovary were normal.

OUTCOME: The patient went home the day after the operation. The pain was resolved.

Waiting on histology results.
